Derek ‘Sweet D’ Williams was one of Britain’s most talented Heavyweight boxers. After a successful career that included winning the Commonwealth and European Heavyweight titles, Derek is now the Managing Director of Sweet D Fitness, motivational speakerand manager to some of Britain’s brightest new boxing talent, Including heavyweights A J Carter and Dominic Akinlade.
He spends a lot of time working to reform gang members, using boxing discipline training and therapeutic communication skills. He is the Chairman of The Pedro Club in Hackney, working with former British Middleweight Champion, James Cook MBE, the Pedro Club is dedicated to helping the local youth, teaching various activities, including Music production, Computer Programs and other skills.
He also works very closely with Kids Company, the charity where founder Camila Batmanghelidjh CBE leads a fantastic team with the tagline ‘No child should ever feel alone.’ Over 17,000 children have been reached since it’s inception in 1996. Derek is constantly working to empower youth and has embarked on a Professional Development Certificate, Therapeutic Communications Skills for work with children, under the tutelage of Psychotherapist Jocelyne Quennell .
Derek has traveled to Africa on a few occasions, visiting Ethiopia, Ghana, South Africa and Uganda where he was able to speak with politicians to see a way forward for the poor and hungry, forgotten children.
Derek offers a six weeks Non-contact boxing training course. Under his tutelage, students are taught to instruct one – one or group sessions, once completed, they receive a certificate approved by the British Boxing Board of Control.
